A folding is the process by which rocks bend in response to the compressional force. Large scale folding occurred and massive layers of the earth’s crust were uplifted due to compressional force which push toward each other in opposite directions. The uplifted crust formed FOLD MOUNTAINS, example The Hilmalayas.  There are two types of folding:

Anticline- upward direction
i) Anticline is a convex up fold in rock that resembles an arch like structure with the rock beds (or limbs) dipping way from the center of the structure

Syncline- downward (sink)
